Chef Izu Ani is something of a favorite among foodies in Dubai, so fans of the popular chef will be thrilled to hear he’s opening a new restaurant in the city – and it’s going to be Greek-Mediterranean.
GAIA is set to open in September in Gate Village in DIFC and promises “Greek-Mediterranean cuisine with a modern palate and captivating charm”.
Dishes will be inspired by the Grecian coastal islands, with seafood making a star appearance. They will focus on home-style cooking and fresh ingredients, tailoring traditional Greek cuisine to Dubai’s dining scene. The restaurant itself will be based around a modern tavern, boasting warm Greek hospitality.
“Mediterranean dining is such an inspiration to me,” said chef Izu. “Tables filled with generosity, and plates filled with flavor. Sharing courses of simple recipes enhanced with fresh herbs and spices. I have spent a lot of time in Greece, completely immersing myself in the environment, so that I can fully understand its roots.
“I found that, in Greek tradition, food is so much more than sustenance, it’s about culture, family, and love. We have infused this theory throughout each part of GAIA, from the menu to the details and design, so that it is reflected within the ambiance.”
The chef has joined up with Bulldozer Group – the team who also brought 1 Oak and Seven Sisters to Dubai this year – for the fancy new restaurant.
The GAIA menu comes from chef Izu and chef Orestis – who was also at La Serre and La Petite Maison – and is “fuelled by flavour and memories”.
